IN THE BLUE ROOM
The title of the exhibition “In the Blue Room” comes from one of my works — a double portrait of our friends. This painting also refers to Henri Matisse’s “The Conversation.”
Blue is one of my favorite colors. The sky and the sea can be blue, but blue is also the color of shadow — a place where you can hide from the hot southern sun and find peace. For me, the “blue room” is also an imaginary space where my works can be shown. For a short time, the Naomeh Gallery has become such a “blue room.” Here I present drawings on paper bags (“Diary in Pictures”), several studies of Akko, and portraits of our friends and acquaintances.
The “Diary in Pictures” marked the beginning of my Israeli period. Later, many studies of Akko appeared, created during our open-air painting sessions. Day by day, we explored different corners of the city. At the same time, I painted portraits of friends, trying to capture their character and inner conflicts through artistic means.
